Cat fleas are the most abundant of the species in the nation; they are commonly found in carpets, floor rugs, pet bedding, furniture and even able to live in the grass/lawns. Fleas have four stages of life; egg, larvae, pupae (juvenile fleas) and the adult, length of stages can vary depending on temperatures, humidity and available food (blood). Adults are only about 2-4 mm long; these blood feeders survive on a “host” like an animal or human and are capable of transmitting infections and disease to their hosts. Pesticides do not affect the egg and pupae of the fleas, it is imperative to vacuum thoroughly prior to treatment as any disruption or vibrations will forcibly open into the adult stage thus effectively eliminating an infestation.
